Libras de Amor is an integral program about nutrition that tries to contribute to the overcoming of poverty and undernourishment in El Salvador.
Libras de Amor’s mission is to contribute to the fight to surpass poverty through the significant diminution of undernourishment in children, pregnant women and nursing mothers.
Libras de Amor works in those regions that are at more risk in terms of poverty and malnutrition. The program started working is the most affected area of El Salvador called Ahuachapan, (specifically in Apaneca) which is the sector with the highest levels of child malnutrition. Since September of 2005 Libras de Amor started to branch out to other regions giving top priority to those in most need.
Libras de Amor began operating in October of 2004 with the goal to greatly reduce the amount of poverty and malnutrition in El Salvador. The project works closely with a population of children, boys and girls younger than five years of age that suffer for malnutrition. These children receive childcare and nutritional support. All women who are pregnant or nursing are under constant monitoring by the Libras de Amor team, who keep a close eye on their progress. In addition to these operations, Libras de Amor has helped many children gain weight, a very significant step forward towards their recuperation.
