Juan Luis Bosch

Juan Luis BoschMr. Bosch studied to be a Mechanical Engineer at the University of Rafael Landivar. In 1972 he began working at Administración Molinos Modernos S.A. in Guatemala. He is now Co-President of Corporación Multi Inversiones S.A. in Guatemala, Director of Universidad Del Valle De Guatemala, Director of Banco Industrial de Guatemala, and has participated in several institutions; he is Founder of FUNDESA, FUNDACION DIG, Young Presidents Organization in Guatemala, Banco Reformador de Guatemala, Periódico Siglo XXI, Founder of Fundación Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, he has also been President of CACIF, President of Cámara de Industria in Guatemala, President of Asociación de Avicultores in Guatemala, and President of Centro America 2,000.

Mr. Bosch has been member of several regional organizations such as (Meso América Investments and Telefónica de Centroamérica), Consejo Empresarial Latinoamericano (CEAL), and Grupo Consultivo de Bain Consulting in Mexico. He is married, and has three daughters and one son.

 

Maria Eugenia Brizuela de Avila

On August 11, 2004, Mayu took charge of the Presidency of Banco Salvadoreño, as the first woman President of a private Bank in El Salvador. In 1999 she had already become the first woman in the history of the nation to be designated as Minister of Foreign Affairs, receiving from Pope John Paul II the highest condecoration bestowed on a Salvadoran. When Banco Salvadoreño and Banistmo, the region’s biggest financial conglomerate, formed a strategic alliance, she was elected member of the Board and CEO, remaining so even after HSBC bought the bank’s majority. In the private sector, she has been President of International de Seguros, an insurance company; La Auxiliadora funeral home; and several other companies, receiving the Palma de Oro, the most prestigious private sector recognition for lifetime achievements. She has a strong academic background in Art, Insurance, Law and holds an MBA from INCAE, devoting herself also to socially oriented institutions such as “Patronato delHogar del Niño” orphanage, “FUDEM” women’s development, Zamorano Agricultural University, and FUSADES, the private sector’s most prestigious think tank. At the moment she is HSBC´s Regional Head for Corporate Sustainability in Latin America. Mayu is also an Aspen Institute moderator. 
 

Tomás Dueñas

Tomás DuenasMr. Dueñas is the current Ambassador of Costa Rica to the U.S.  He is also President of INTACO INTERNACIONAL S.A., a regional leader in the sale and rental of construction equipment.  He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of CINDE (Costa Rica Investment & Development Board), Member of the Board of Directors of La Nación, Costa Rica’s largest newspaper and publishing group, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Costa Rican Central Bank Museums.  Some of his past posts include Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce  (2000), Minister of Foreign Trade (2000 – 2002), Chairman of the Board of Directors of PROCOMER, Member of the Economic Council of the Costa Rican Government, and Vice-President of the WTO Ministerial Meeting at Doha (2001). 

 

Arturo Condo

Arturo CondoMr Condo is the current Dean of INCAE, Latin America’s number one business school. He holds a Doctoral degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Management, graduated a Distinguished Scholar from INCAE and holds a Systems Engineering Degree from ESPOL, in Guayaquil, Ecuador.   Mr. Condo is currently Dean of INCAE where he has led the Latin American Center form Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS).   He has worked extensively in the formulation of national competitive agendas in at least eight Latin American countries and has been an international consultant in the field in Europe and Asia.   Under his leadership, CLACDS has undertaken some of its most innovative work in topics of sustainability, technology in rural education and development, sustainable tourism in highly sensitive areas (such as the Galápagos Archipielago), and in supporting local governments develop their own sustainable development agendas.  He is in the board of Paniamor, a foundation that seeks to protect the rights of minors, and works as a business consultant for firms all over Latin America. 

 

Lorena Facusse

Lorena FacusseLorena Facusse was born in Tegucigalpa Honduras. She is married and has tour kids. She has a degree in Business. She is President of Grupo Lis, where she is in charge of four main operations: Operador Logístico Centro Americano, Lis Logistics Global, Comercial Máxima and Merril Lis. From 1974 to 2002 she worked at Corporación Dinant S.A. were she was occupied several positions including, Director of Marketing, Director of Sales, Director of Yummies, Director of Planning and Delivery, and Secretary of the Marketing Department. Lorena Facusse also belongs to several organizations and philantropic groups such as, Asociación Juventud Renovadora, where she is president of the Board of Directors. She is also President of Nuestra Señora del Lago and Vice-President of Fundación FEDES. 

 

Jaime Montealegre

Jaime MontealegreMr. Montealegre was born in Nicaragua and has been living in Costa Rica since 1992. He formed the Sigma Group in 1992, and he is the managing partner of several offshore funds specializing in emerging markets investments. Mr. Montealegre is also very active in real estate investments with important projects in Costa Rica and Dominican Republic. From 1981 to 1991 he worked in NYC for Citicorp as Vice President in the Specialized Finance Division of the Investment Bank. In 1987 Mr. Montealegre worked closely with several banks, as an independent trader and a principal, helping large Latin American companies manage their offshore liabilities, and helping investors participate in the secondary debt market for Latin American obligations. Other positions he has held are Deputy Director of Finance Department of the Central Bank of Nicaragua, Director of the Venture Capital Unit of Banco de America, General Manager of Caribe Motors de Nicaragua, Co-General Manager of Electroquímica Pennwalt, and Executive Director of COSEP, an umbrella organization representative of Nicaraguan Private Enterprise. Mr. Montealegre has a B.S. in Economics Cum Laude from the Wharton School, at the University of Pennsylvania; an M.B.A. with Honors from the Graduate School of Business of The University of Chicago, and is a Ph. D. candidate in Business Economics from the Graduate School of Business of The University of Chicago. He is married and has three boys.

 

Stanley Motta

Stanley MottaMr. Stanley Motta is a Panamanian businessman involved in many activities. He is presently Chairman of the Board of Copa Holdings (NYSE symbol CPA) the parent of CopaAirlines based in Panama and Copa Colombia Airlines based in Colombia. As Chairman of Grupo Financiero Continental he negotiated a merger with Banco General to form BG Financial Holdings in early 2007 thus forming the largest privately held bank in the region. He continues as President of Motta Internacional a wholesale distributor and operator of Duty Free Stores in the region. Mr. Motta was Chairman of Autoridad de la Region Interoceanica (ARI) until May 2000. This was a government entity that received all the assets that were not part of the Panama Canal Operations as a result of the Torrijos Carter Treaty between the United States and Panama. Mr. Motta resides in Panama and continues to be active in many industries including television, auto distribution, insurance and trustee of ANCON a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the environment. He is also a member of the Board of the Trust of the Americas affiliated with the Organization of American States and Chairman of Sumarse a organization promoting CSR in Panama.

 

Peter Reiling

Peter ReilingPeter Reiling is Executive Vice President for Leadership and Seminar Programs and Executive Director of the Henry Crown Fellowship Program at the Aspen Institute. In these roles, he oversees the Institute's growing portfolio of leadership initiatives (the Aspen Global Leadership Network) and seminars (including The Aspen Seminar, offered at the Institute since 1950) as well as its flagship leadership program. Peter is a trustee, officer, and senior moderator of the Aspen Institute, a Henry Crown Fellow (Class of 1998), and the founder of the Africa Leadership Initiative (ALI), a joint venture between the Aspen Institute and five African business leaders. Prior to joining the Aspen Institute, from 1996 to 2004, Peter was President and CEO of TechnoServe, an international organization helping entrepreneurs across Africa, Latin America, India, and Central Europe to build businesses in their communities. He is co-founder of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs and currently serves as chairman of the board of the Central America Leadership Foundation as well as on the boards of ALI/East Africa, ALI/West Africa, ALI/South Africa, Agora Partnerships, the Energy Access Foundation, and Pegasus Tower Holdings LLC. Peter is a former adjunct professor at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs and guest lecturer at the Institute for Developing Economies in Tokyo. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bretton Woods Committee, and was named "Outstanding Social Entrepreneur" by the Schwab Foundation in Geneva. He is a graduate of Georgetown University (BSFS) and the University of California/Berkeley (MBA), with additional studies at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles. Peter is married to Denise Byrne and is the father of two children, Dylan and Eva Luna.

 

Harry W. Strachan

Harry W. Strachan

Mr. Strachan is Managing Director of Mesoamerica Partners and Director Emeritus of Bain & Co and President of the Strachan Foundation. He has experience in a variety of sectors, including financial services, retailing and distribution, consumer products and beverages, information services and software, light and heavy industries and airlines, hotels and tourism. Mr. Strachan also taught courses in finance and business at Harvard Business School and INCAE, and is author of The Role of Family Business Groups in Economic Development. He holds a a JD From Harvard Law School and a DBA From Harvard Business School. He is born in Costa Rica of missionary parents and has two children. Mr. Strachan is an Aspen Institute trained moderator for the CALI Foundation.

  

 

David Williams

David Williams

David Williams, currently the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean for the nonprofit TechnoServe, has extensive strategic and management experience in the private and development sectors.  With TechnoServe Mr Williams has designed and managed market-led development programs across Africa and Latin America.  Prior to TechnoServe, he worked in Asia and Europe for the business consulting firm Bain&Company, as well as for the private equity fund Bain Capital.  He holds degrees in Laws and in Economics from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Mauricio Vivero

Mauricio ViveroMauricio Vivero currently serves as Executive Director of the Seattle International Foundation. He has served in many senior-level positions with national organizations and as a consultant to many institutions on advocacy, tax and public policy issues. His professional experience includes serving as Director of Government Relations for Independent Sector, V.P. of lobbying and public affairs at the Legal Services Corporation and Director of Grassroots Lobbying for the American Bar Association (ABA). Mauricio currently serves on the boards of Global Impact, LINGOs, and Puget Sound Blood Center.

He was born in Havana, Cuba and immigrated with his family to the U.S. in 1970. Mauricio holds a law degree from Creighton University and a bachelor's degree in international relations from Florida International University.

Thomas McCloskey

Thomas McCloskeyMr. McCloskey is Chairman and CEO of Cornerstone Holdings. He has served as general partner in over 50 partnerships and has been involved in a variety of diverse business activities. Through his affiliation with Palmer Communications, Palmer Wireless, and now Cornerstone Holdings, he has been involved with high-level strategic development of technology companies and wireless communications markets for the past twenty years.
Mr. McCloskey served as chairman of Horizon Organic Holdings (NASDAQ:HCOW), the world's largest organic dairy company, from 1993 to 2004, was a director of Summit Energy Corporation, based in Louisville, Kentucky, and is currently Director of Magna Energy Services. Mr. McCloskey is the founder of the McCloskey Business Plan Competition at University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business. He was formerly vice president of the board of trustees of the Thacher School of Ojai, CA. Additionally, Mr. McCloskey volunteers with the Leadership Kaua'i Board of Directors, the Aspen Institute, the Advisory Council of University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business, and the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, where he has lectured on business ethics. Mr. McCloskey has a BA from the University of Notre Dame and a MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Aspen, San Francisco and Kauai with his wife of 40 years. They have four children.
