From June 11—14, 2009, the CALI Foundation had its second gathering of Aspen Global Leadership Fellows (AGLN) from around the world at The Aspen Institutes campus, The Aspen Meadows, in Aspen, Colorado.

CALI would like to share with you some of the highlights from this second AGLN get together and also its official launch, titled "ACT II:  Connect. Engage. Inspire”. Nearly 160 Fellows from 23 countries, along with trustees and special guests, descended on the Aspen Meadows for two and a half days of Aspen-style seminar discussions and interactive roundtable sessions.

Among the event's features were keynote addresses by senior moderator Ben Dunlap, Trustee Emeritus Lester Crown and Carlyle Group General Manager David Rubenstein; a "Project Speed Dating" exercise during which Fellows presented their leadership projects to each other, giving and receiving rapid-fire feedback before moving on to the next person; and a series of intensive project workshops, providing Fellows with high-quality advice on how to overcome particular roadblocks to project progress.

Other events during ACT II included: a film festival featuring films produced by Fellows from Los Angeles, Costa Rica and Kuwait, and musical performances by Fellows from California and South Africa.

During this gathering, the announcement of the five finalists for the 2009 John P. McNulty Prize was also made public. Two CALI Fellows were selected as finalists – Alejandro Poma (CALI I from El Salvador) for his project “Libras de Amor”, and Ricardo Terán (CALI I from Nicaragua) for his project “Agora Partnerships”.
