
President of SUMA architects and urban planners, a private firm specialized
in urban-scale projects that include public-private partnerships, and
significant social and environmental components. He has held several
government posts, including Executive Director of the Office of the Old City
(OCA), a governmental agency administered through the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP), and whose mission is the renovation of the
colonial neighborhood of Panama City, declared World Heritage Site in 1997.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Catholic University
in Panama, a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of
Arizona, and a Ph.D. in anthropology from Rice University. He is married
and has two sons.
